Matthew’s newly developed snark was the best, as was experiencing his existential crisis. Declan is still the cunning, shape-changing thief who stole my heart. Ronan is a lovable asshole with a hidden well of insecurities. Jordan is still an absolute gem and I loved seeing the world through her painter’s eyes. The characters of this story are where it’s at. ![]() (I can’t remember if we had it in Call Down the Hawk, but it was so refreshing here.) Having Matthew’s POV was a treat as he developed a rebellious streak and baited Declan. Ronan and Hennessey together are biting, sarcastic, wonderful. The plot is still, however, a vague backdrop for the real focus of the story-which is its characters and their fiercest desires and blackest fears.ĭespite my hesitancy to start this sequel, I was wrapped up instantly in the cast banter and surprisingly hilarious tone. Questions dropped lazily at the end of Call Down the Hawk were answered. Mister Impossible once again casts a magic spell that had me falling in love with a group of fictional characters. ![]()
